Peaches is my peachy colour, beige mixed breed dog who has been in the pack since 2024 sometime. I was away working on my yachts when my mother decided to adopt another dog, more for Pluto’s sake than anything else at the time. I one day came home to a sweet, round and gentle dog by the name of Peaches.
You can meet her more personally on my Wild Reverence YouTube channel, but I thought I would write about her here as well, since she is a special soul who deserves all the spotlight.
We don’t actually know that much about Peaches, her background I mean, as she was a rescue and most likely found in one of the townships. We have no idea what she has been through, but from her behaviour since meeting her, it seems she has avoided abuse and neglect, since she is rarely afraid and only shows love and affection towards people.
Pluto only had small Gracie to play with at the time, as Buggalugs and Antigone were not interested in entertaining him, so my mom thought it better to get a dog closer to his size that he could run around with and play rough with. So Peaches came home. Unfortunately for Pluto, Peaches is truly a lazy lady. She is not too interested in playing and having games, as her interests lie in napping, eating and licking people.
I didn’t really get to spend enough time with her in 2024, as my yachting career was all over the place, but the times that I did spend bonding with her, were very special moments that I will always treasure. It’s so great being permanently at home now rather than away on a yacht, as I can simply walk outside and snuggle seven dogs. They appreciate my presence at home more than I can probably imagine and it makes me so happy to see them wagging their tails whenever they see me.
Peaches may be lazy and round, but I recently discovered the other week, that she is actually quite fit! She is probably fitter than Pluto, surprisingly. I would take turns swapping between Peaches and Pluto for my morning 6-8k steps, and Peaches was by far the strongest to handle it, especially on the way back home. Pluto would peter out, slowing down and needing more rest breaks, where as Peaches was the one pulling me home at the end!
I enjoyed taking her out and I would like to do it more often. It is honestly a pain to have to wake up extra early in order to prepare for the morning walk, but I suppose it is worth it in the end and you start your day off fresh and active. It was easier those two or three weeks ago when the weather was still chilly in the morning, but now that we are moving into Spring, the temperature is just going to continue to rise and rise.
All of my animals obviously hold a special place in my heart, even if I am slightly more connected to some with others, and for Peaches and I, well, we love each other and I will always have a soft spot for her.
She doesn’t pick fights, she listens, she’s always gentle, she has big, kind eyes and never causes mischief. I truly think she is grateful to simply even have a place to call home rather than living in a kennel in a shelter for the rest of her life. And that is why I love adopting animals. You are basically giving that animal a second chance at life, and the gratitude they have for you, even though they may not be able to express it in words, goes far beyond a simple “thank you.”
To have a dog like Peaches in your life, is to have a lifetime of happiness. All dogs are different, each rescue has their own back story, but the way they are treated from the day you take them home, is what reshapes their perspective on life.
It’s not always easy adopting animals, especially if you don’t know where they have come from or what they have been through, but I have learnt through my little life of adopting so far that nothing else matters but the love and patience you pour into that animal.

I was lucky with Peaches, or my mom was lucky, she could have turned out to be vicious and defensive. It could have taken months if not years to prove to her that trusting humans is not always a bad thing. Instead we were blessed with an angel that is the colour of a peach, golden in the sunlight, with beautiful melted chocolate eyes. I am so grateful to have Peaches, because she never gets sick of love or attention and is a pure cuddle dog made to comfort and bring joy and happiness into people’s lives.
I hope Peaches story inspires you to adopt, rather than buy a dog. You would be changing the life of one sad dog, transforming his or her spirit to one of gratitude and love. Don’t forget to check out the YouTube video of my sweet Peaches who shone in the light of the camera.
