Exploring the different cultures and their cuisines is one of my favourite hobbies. More than anything I love to travel and experience the world for myself. Unfortunately I have not made my dream come true of traveling to India, but I am sure one day I will have the opportunity to visit somewhere special in India. Luckily for us South Africans, being the rainbow nation that we are, we have plenty of Indian culture restaurants and shops scattered around Johannesburg. And lucky for me, I have Indian friends who were more than happy to share one of their best and easiest curry recipes. There is a video I uploaded of cooking this curry from scratch, which you can find here.
The curry had been cooked for me before and I absolutely loved it. This is a vegetarian dish essentially but does not even need a hint of meat as the flavours pull through effortlessly and the paneer cheese is substance enough to keep your mouth chewing. I recommend with this recipe that you follow it to the T, otherwise you may end up with a taste you wish you never had. I put in more tomatoes than the recipe said, and all I could taste was tomatoes and spices (I dislike tomatoes very much). I will definitely be trying that recipe again, except I won’t go my own path and start changing it up, I will actually stick to it.
It is surprisingly an easy recipe to follow and just requires a bit more patience than normal recipes but if you are focused and have patience, it will not take you too long to cook. The end result is also definitely worth the patience you pour into this meal. Rice is optional, but I prefer to have all my curries with rice and it does help you feel a bit more full and satisfied than without rice, and if you cannot handle a lot of spice, rice breaks through the curry and helps keep your mouth cool.
