Beading is a fun activity when one knows what they are supposed to do. Beading has been a hobby of mine since my early twenties, or even before, during lockdown. I loved stringing beads along a string, watching them fall, creating a pattern and tying off the ends to end up with a pretty necklace or waist chain. I only ever learnt the basics of beading and creating jewelry from beads, but I never wanted to be professional at it anyway.  

I recently discovered a new way of beading, or to make it more fun for myself. Beading a string for bookmarks! It adds life to your bookmark and creates the perfect placement holder of where you left off in your book. I did a video recently on this one as well, but here are the steps of how I accomplished a simple but fun bookmark add on.  

Step 1: Make sure your bookmark has a small hole punched in it, otherwise you cannot add your beaded string to your bookmark.  

Step 2: Choose the colour of your beads and length of your string; you don’t want it too long or too short.  

Step 3: Cut your string, and tie a knot in the hole your bookmark about three times, so that way the beads can flow that way until you end it off. You want a secure enough knot so that the string doesn’t unravel at the top of your bookmark where the punched hole is.  

Step 4: Begin placing your beads on your string. Make sure to leave a bit of space at the end to block off the end to prevent beads from falling off that way.  

Step 5: Now take your small little balls and put them at the end of your string and use pliers to close it off. Use about three balls, again, so that your beads are secure enough.  

Step 6: If you would like, add another string on for effect. This makes the bookmark pop out even more and adds extra vibrancy to it.

On my youtube I get slightly confused though, but you can see and understand better what I mean by each of the steps. It’s a fun and relaxing hobby to do when you are bored and makes your bookmarks more unique and personal to you. You can add other charms, letters or whatever else you want to make it the way you want to.
