Women get their nails done for many different reasons. Main reason is to make ourselves feel good. To show that we love and cherish ourselves. Sometimes it’s only for special occasions, such as a wedding, a birthday party or a major event. Whatever the reasons are, manicures are a global entity, mainly for women.
I recently got my nails done just the other day since my previous session’s ones had outgrown. I consider myself lucky, in the sense that my nails tend to grow strong, long and healthy, therefore eliminating the need for fake nails or tips. They have been like that my whole life. As I was inching towards the end of my teen years, my mother had started bringing me along with her for monthly manicures and it was my favourite thing. I always use gel and I would also have some sort of cool nail art done.
When I began to travel for yachting is when the luxury of getting my nails done had come to an end. On the boats you have to have clean, shortish, well-cut nails to be presentable in front of owners and guests, which is fair.
Since I decided to quit yachting this year, I realised I have freedom over my physical appearance. I can wear makeup the way I want, I am not conformed to a uniform and I can grow my nails out and have fun with the designs! I decided to have a wintery theme set for June and included and cute horseshoe on my middle fingernails, a design discovered on Pinterest and modified to the way I wanted it.

My nails grew out quickly and it was time to get them redone. I settled on pink butterfly wings. I did not want such a bright and girly shade of pink but unfortunately there were not many options regarding the pinks. I still think they turned out beautiful and the best of it all is that it is never permanent and can always be changed or completely removed. I always get a gel manicure, so that my nails last longer and are more resistant to breakage.
I know August is the beginning of the changing of seasons and my cute butterfly nails will suit just perfectly. I also derived inspiration from Pinterest as I usually do and cannot wait to share my next design with the world. Nails are fun, a show of personality and an excellent conversation starter with other women. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not a box to fit in for the sake of society, so enjoy it!
